Our History

"Aero Legends operates from both Sywell Airfield in Northamptonshire and Headcorn Airfield in Kent. Sywell is unusual in having remained in private ownership since its founding 87 years ago and in providing flying training facilities throughout that time.

There are few occasions in history when we can say that the actions of a few changed the destiny, not just of a country but of the world. The Battle of Britain is one of those moments.

Great Britain owes a debt of gratitude to the small number of allied pilots that protected our skies during the long summer of 1940 and Aero Legends keeps the memory and knowledge of this period alive for future generations.

In the 1930s as the threat of another World War loomed there was a necessity to train as many fighter pilots as possible and the Tiger Moth and Harvard were the default trainers for pilots destined to fly the new advanced mono wing aircraft such as the Spitfire and Hurricane.

Aero Legends offers a unique experience of being able to fly in and with the training and combat aircraft that the RAF used during WWII. Customers have a broad selection of options ranging from a short flight in a Tiger Moth through to the full experience package of Tiger Moth, Harvard and Spitfire.

The recent Battle of Britain Programme hosted by Ewan McGregor best describes the type of adventure that we are able to offer. In fact the Spitfire and Harvard that Ewan and his brother Colin flew in during the making of the programme are the actual aircraft that are available for you to fly in. We urge you to watch the DVD, which is available for direct purchase on this website and decide which experience you would like to book.

All of our aircraft are maintained to the highest standards and their histories are set out on this website. All of our customers will be fully briefed from an operational and safety perspective prior to their experience flight and will wear an authentic WWII style parachute.

We are proud to have some of the most experienced pilots on these Marques flying for us, many of which have long and successful careers with the RAF including the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The Pilots’ biographies are on this site.

We aim to make the selection of the your chosen package as easy as possible, so if you have any questions that are not answered by our website please do not hesitate to telephone and we will be very pleased to help you.

For many this will be the experience of a lifetime, but you will not have to wait a lifetime to experience a flight in a Spitfire like Neville Croucher.

What our customers say
FLY WITH A SPITFIRE Saturday was a brilliant day. The occasion was an 80th birthday present from my family and it will stay with me for the rest of my life. I took a flight alongside a Spitfire seeing aerial artistry and flying theatre. The Spitfire appears, flying within smiling distance. She manoeuvres around you with breathtaking ease. The de Havilland Devon, an ex RAF passenger aircraft, propels you through the air at the correct operational speed for the Spitfire to dance around your panoramic window. Air to air photo shoots like this don’t get any better! Nigel B - Flight Alongside A Spitfire
